More than 34% of users have been harassed through Social Networks

_

  • This is extracted from a survey conducted by the company S2 Grupo through its blog Hijosdigitales.es.
  • Experts from the company have emphasized that cybersecurity awareness is a necessity in both the personal and professional spheres.
  • The digital transformation of society is a fact and safeguarding the information available in environments connected to the network is fundamental for the security of both individuals and companies.

Valencia, November 29, 2018.- On the occasion of the celebration on Friday, November 30, of the International Day of Information Security, the company S2 Grupo has warned that because the digital transformation of society is a fact, the risks to which both people and companies are exposed in relation to all the information they share on devices connected to the Internet have increased. With regard to the personal sphere, the company specializing in cybersecurity has carried out a survey through its Hijosdigitales.es blog, which shows that 34.7% of users admit to having suffered some kind of harassment through Social networks. Along with this, 21.4% claim to know an adult who has experienced extortion or other type of siege in digital environments. "Cybersecurity training and awareness is a pressing need. When we think about this, it is common to focus on protecting children. Obviously, this is necessary, but it is also very important to know that more and more adults are suffering from all kinds of problems due to the confident use of digital environments and it is essential that they know how to use technology in an appropriate way, the risks they face with its use and how to safeguard their information so that it is not used to their detriment", said José Rosell, managing-partner of S2 Grupo. Regarding the actions taken by families to protect themselves, the study shows that more than half do not know what measures they can use and only 27.8% change the passwords that come by default on the devices, such as routers, smart TV, smart watches, tablets, etc. "In the survey we also observed that 24.2% of families continue to believe that it is impossible for them to be targeted by cybercriminals, that they are not 'important' and that it is very difficult for a stranger to 'notice' them. This is a big problem. As they do not see cyber risk, they do not see the need to take cyber-precautions and this is like leaving your car keys in the car, thinking that no one will take it away", said Miguel A. Juan, managing-partner of S2 Grupo. "In addition, this lack of concern for cybersecurity is transferred from the personal to the professional level and it is more than likely that these people can unconsciously develop actions that involve vulnerabilities and entry doors for cybercriminals in the entities in which they work. A simple example could be to open emails from unknown senders or use USB whose owner is unknown", continued Miguel A. Juan. Information Security in companies As far as the business sector is concerned, S2 Grupo has ensured that cyber-attacks have become one of the main concerns for companies and society. This is mainly due to two factors: we have a greater dependence on technology and there is a growing hyper-connectivity of industrial systems and infrastructures. For this reason, this company has stressed that it is essential for public or private entities to design a cybersecurity strategy in which responsibility, resources and risk management programs are assigned. This is already a reality in most IBEX 35 companies that, because they are aware of the high probability of suffering a cybersecurity attack and the high impact they would have in terms of profitability for their businesses, this issue has become one of the most relevant to deal with and supervise in their Boards of Directors.  More information: prensa@s2grupo.es
