e4SDV

e4SDV (Technological boost for the Basque Country's automotive industry through industrial research into innovative elements for Software-Defined Vehicles)

Call: HAZITEK 2024 - ENPRESA I+G BULTZATZEKO LAGUNTZA PROGRAMA

The automotive sector is at a turning point in a digitalized and interconnected world. Europe, with its focus on security and user experience, faces the risk of losing competitiveness against the more aggressive strategies of China and the U.S. To counter this, the European Union is promoting initiatives such as the Data Act, AI Act, and Chips Act, with a special emphasis on Software-Defined Vehicles (SdV)—a model that shifts critical functions from hardware to software, enabling greater flexibility, remote updates, and adaptability.

This shift represents a key transformation for the industry, enhancing user experience and generating new business opportunities. However, its implementation entails significant challenges, such as the increasing reliance on software throughout the vehicle's entire lifecycle—from design and manufacturing to maintenance. This requires the adoption of new technologies and methodologies, as well as specialized workforce training.

Additionally, the growing interconnectivity and complexity of modern vehicles present critical challenges in security, privacy, and reliability, increasing their exposure to cyberattacks. This makes the adoption of robust cybersecurity measures and risk management strategies essential. Likewise, validating these systems is crucial to ensuring interoperability, fault tolerance, and compliance with security standards, which demands innovative testing methodologies and a unified regulatory framework.

Furthermore, digitalization imposes new safety paradigms, based on rigorous testing, predictive models, and close collaboration between manufacturers, suppliers, and regulators.

In this context, e4SDV aims to strengthen the automotive industry in the Basque Country, providing companies with the necessary tools to adopt these technologies and maintain their competitiveness in the global market. By tackling the challenges of SdVs, e4SDV drives the industry’s transformation to meet European demands and ensure its integration into advanced software architectures, reinforcing its position in the future automotive sector.
