  • This tool will be a major step forward in the cyber protection of organizations and in curbing the actions of cybercriminals.

Valencia, January 25, 2021.- The National Cryptological Center (CCN-CERT) and the cybersecurity company S2 Grupo have developed a pioneering project that represents the first cybersecurity “vaccine”.

Under the name "Microclaudia", experts from both organizations have created the first tool for the "vaccination" of computers that will prevent malware from infecting the computers of companies or organizations.

“Microclaudia is a centralized vaccination system and we have understood the vaccine as an agent that is installed on the computer and prevents the virus from running on it. It has been created so that it can coexist with other antivirus systems. A cybersecurity vaccine is something that makes the malware think, for example, that the computer is already infected so it will not run. In this way, it prevents malware from entering computers through different mechanisms”, said José Rosell, managing partner of S2 Grupo.

“Using the analogy with the health field, we can see the antivirus as an antiretroviral that tries to prevent the virus already running from spreading. In this context, the vaccine prevents the virus from running. Therefore, Microclaudia represents a breakthrough in the field of cyber protection of organizations and, of course, in actions to stop the damages intended by cybercrime”, explained Miguel A. Juan, managing partner of S2 Grupo.

Since malware looks for uninfected computers in order to infect them, experts from the CCN-CERT and the S2 Grupo CERT have taken advantage of their specialized knowledge of these ways of "searching" for uninfected computers to create a tool that provides the possibility of anticipating and making the malware believe that the computer already has a virus, and therefore, prevent it from acting. The key to this pioneering software lies in the knowledge of how different types of malware spread in order to act in advance and stop it.
