  • The cybersecurity company S2 Grupo has stressed that if there is a cyber-attack at home, it is important to notify the companies where its members work because their information could be compromised.
  • When the cyberattack is directly in the company, among other things, it is crucial not to touch anything until it is analyzed by the incident management team, otherwise, the effects could be aggravated.

Valencia, February 8, 2021.- On the occasion of the celebration tomorrow, February 9, of the International Secure Internet Day, the cybersecurity company S2 Grupo has highlighted the importance of knowing how to respond if we are victims of a cyber-attack as an essential element to minimize, as far as possible, its impact.

Currently, we are faced with two scenarios: households and companies. And these, in turn, can be closely related as a result of teleworking.

“To protect an organization's information we must be able to manage its security correctly and this entails, among other things, the establishment of a security incident management capability, as this capability will allow the company or organization to respond correctly to a cyberattack and be more effective in its resolution”, explained Miguel A. Juan, managing partner of S2 Grupo.

"It is impossible for cybercrime to disappear, which is why good cybersecurity management in organizations and also in our homes is so important", said Miguel A. Juan.

“What should we do if we suffer a cyber-attack at home? The first thing is to bear in mind that any attack in the home can affect the company where its members work. Therefore, it must be communicated. This is even more important in the case of people who hold management positions or who handle sensitive information”, said José Rosell, managing partner of S2 Grupo.

"On the other hand, in other types of cybercrimes, it must be put in the hands of the Police, the Telematic Crimes units are prepared for it, especially in the case of issues that affect children," continued Rosell.

How to act if the cyber-attack is on my company?

S2 Grupo has stressed that once the cyber-attack has occurred, the most important thing is to immediately notify the incident management experts, who will be in charge of all legal, technical and resolution aspects.

The second step is not to take any action on the network until they come. Although this usually difficult due to the stress that is created, it is very important not to complicate the situation even more.

After informing the team in charge of managing cyber incidents, they will carry out an analysis of the situation and collect all the data that will help to find out how it happened, where cybercriminals “entered”, how many people were affected, what the magnitude of the action was, etc.

They will then apply their work to stop the intrusion into the company's systems so that the cybercriminals’ actions have the least possible impact on the organization.

S2 Grupo has stressed that, as it is impossible to avoid cyberattacks with total guarantee, it is essential to learn from them in order to improve the security mechanisms deployed and thus increase the overall security of homes and organizations.
